Staying Healthy during the festive season!

So the festive season is here and that means there is going to be a lot of food! One of the most common questions I get from people during these times, including the editor of this magazine, is, 'How do I eat healthy with all the temptations around me?' I am going to answer that question today!

Let's assume that you are hale and healthy! There are lots of sweets and some mouth watering food around you. How to stay healthy? Just save your mind the trouble of trying to avoid temptations and just eat that damn sweet! One or two or how many ever, because those ten sweets probably won't kill you, but what you ate the remaining 340 days (I am assuming you have 25 special days in a year) is probably will cause all the health trouble that you might face in a few years! Problem solved? Great!

Now let's assume that you are healthy otherwise but you have been trying to lose weight for sometime and you have been 'eating healthy' for sometime now. (OK, if you think corn flakes is healthy, then we have a problem, but that's a different topic and I think I have addressed it before). So if you have been really eating healthy (not what the ads want you to believe is healthy, but the really healthy stuff), then you probably know that one day of indulgence might not harm you. You probably already know how to manage proportions, so, you will eat right. Yes, you can eat that sweet! Problem solved? Great!

Let's assume you have some form of long term disease like diabetes or hypertension and that your doctor has prescribed a strict diet. With long term diabetes, one sweet is alright and even if I say otherwise you will probably still eat that 'thoda sa' or the 'one piece for the taste' anyway, so just do it without the guilt. Strictly in moderation, but don't let the guilt kill you. Problem solved? Great!

If you have a serious health concern, my personal opinion (and strictly not a professional one) is that life is measured by the quality and not by the length. However if you go overboard on food and that is going to make the next few days miserable, then it is probably not worth it,

So how do you eat healthy and stay healthy during this festival period? Know your health and eat the right amount of goodies! OK, so what's the question again? The answer is, leave the guilt behind!
