About

Hey there. I'm Wasim, a doctor by profession, so I guess, Dr. Wasim. I had a screen name, Doc Waz a few years back that sort of stuck, so I'm also called Doc Waz! I have a simple philosophy - Uncomplicate. I believe everything can be uncomplicated, if we have ended up complicating it. If not, then things are simple the way they are, if we don't complicate them.

Did I just complicate something simple with all the jargon?

Let's ditch it.

My journey of wellness started in 2007 during my post graduate days. Somehow things seemed complicated and I wanted to understand how a lot of things work. And understand why they don't work. And that is why after 8 years of modern medicine, I ventured in Acupuncture and Ayurveda and what started as a journey to study the negatives, ended up giving me a lot more wisdom. There is a place for every stream of medicine (not the ones practiced by quacks, but by qualified ones). Just that they have their benefits and their drawbacks. Every single one of them.

Having been educated in more than one stream of medicine with a passion for living a well, fit, I've been heading Basil Wellness, the wellness division of Techmed Healthcare where the focus is on healthy living without complicating it. We don't tell you what you should eat and what you shouldn't. We tell you how to live well within your realms of likes and dislikes. There is no point of living to a hundred years if you have it to live it somebody else's way. Nope. Uncomplicate it.

This is my personal blog and needless to say these are based on my research over the years, but nothing on this blog replaces medical care at any level. Please do not mistake this for medical advice in any capacity, because it is not.

What it is though, is something that challenges the 'norm' of healthy living. Chocolate bad for health? Good for health? Eating out bad for health? I have a food blog, chennaifoody.com which is one of the first food blogs in Chennai. Eating out is a professional hazard for me, but that shouldn't stop me from living well! It shouldn't make me fat when I don't want to be fat, just because I have to eat out so often! There is a way around everything.

Do remember though that uncomplicating something doesn't mean it is easy. They are two different things. Undoing a knot takes a long time, but once done, it takes little effort to keep it that way. Not no-effort, but a little effort! So yes, it takes effort to uncomplicate, so if you are looking for a magic pill, this is the wrong place. But my patients are testimony that it is worth the effort. In fact, there is a book of my wonderful patients, 10 patients, that was published in 2015. You can buy it the physical copy here or the kindle version here.

Also, this blog is still a work in progress, so please forgive it for having a few issues!!! Thanks for that!
